Beyond the Studio, celebrating our talented HCA family of Instructors

60 members entered the show this year from 28 towns and 4 states. We received a wonderful variety of works from Experimental to Classical Realism and everything in between.  Juror Sarah Alexander selected 60 for display in the gallery. She is a Core Artist Member at Fountain Street Gallery in Boston, MA.  Her work is in private collections and has been shown extensively throughout New England, as well as abroad. Sarah's work has been published by North Light Books, and she was recently a featured artist in the NARM Quarterly magazine.

The HCA Members Show 2021: Welcome to the Big Tent Exhibition will be available for viewing at the HCA's Lotvin Family gallery February 5-March 18, 2021 as well as online here.

What inspired you to make this work?: Besides loving the sound of clay and incorporating it into much of my work, I love the rhythms of the night. The sounds of the frogs, the bugs, the wind. What better way to hold onto my own rhythms than a strap held by one of natures music makers.

What inspired you to make this work?: Memories of my mother quilting and being so separated from her during this pandemic inspired me to create a series of quilted pots. With each button placed, each square expanded, I felt closer to my mom and many friends during a time when we were not able to be physically close.

What inspired you to make this work?: Getting the dry ice just right has long been an obsession of our volunteer stage crew. I thought this was perfect. And it was so much fun to see the dancers try to contain their excitement. I snapped this just before the curtain opened on Act II so I could share the news of our dry ice success with former crew members. Curtain go! What inspired you to make this work?: I took this picture during a class at Jacqueline Cronsberg’s Ballet Workshop New England. Jackie’s studio was based on Hayden Rowe Street in Hopkinton until her retirement in 2005. She ran her school for forty years. I was her student and eventually served as her Associate Director after starting my teaching career at her school in 1992. Jackie passed in January of 2020, but she is still present in all of my classes. I appreciate being able to share a bit of her through an image of her lovely students. I think she would have enjoyed being back on Hayden Rowe. This photo was taken at Jackie’s satellite studio in Waltham, Massachusetts.
